Bus Trackr

School Bus Tracking App

Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 25, 2026

Bus Trackr ("we", "our", "the app"), operated by Beaudry, respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Bus Trackr you agree to this policy.

1. Who Bus Trackr is for

Bus Trackr is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at lohanbeaudry@icloud.com and we will delete the account and associated data promptly.

2. Data we collect

2.1 Account information

  • Email address and display name (provided through Apple Sign In, Google Sign In, or email/password registration).
  • Account type (student, driver, or parent).
  • School name and bus number (chosen during onboarding).

2.2 Location data

  • Drivers: while tracking is active, your GPS position is shared in real time with students on your bus, including when the app is in the background or your screen is locked. This is essential so students can see where the bus is throughout the route. Tracking is started and stopped manually by the driver in the app and automatically pauses outside school transportation hours.
  • Students: the location of your bus stop (set during onboarding) and your current device location (used to show your position on the map and detect proximity to your stop). Background location is not collected from students.
  • Parents: no location is collected. Parents view their linked child's bus position in real time but their own device location is never recorded.
  • Real-time bus positions are automatically deleted from our servers after 24 hours. We do not maintain historical location traces.

2.3 Usage data

  • Trip statistics: number of bus rides, total distance, total time on the bus, current and longest streak. Used for the leaderboard and badge system.
  • In-app currency (coins) balance, items purchased in the shop, badges earned.
  • App preferences (notification thresholds, language, equipped cosmetics).

2.4 Push notification token

An anonymous device token is stored to send push notifications (bus arrival alerts, driver messages, route cancellations). You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings → Bus Trackr → Notifications.

2.5 Advertising identifier

If you opt in via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, your device's advertising identifier is shared with Google AdMob to serve more relevant rewarded video ads. Denying tracking does not reduce app functionality — you can still earn coins from rewarded ads.

3. How we use your data

  • Provide the real-time school bus tracking service.
  • Send bus arrival notifications to students and driver messages to all bus members.
  • Calculate and display leaderboard rankings within your school.
  • Process in-app subscriptions (Premium) through Apple's App Store.
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • Improve the app via aggregate usage analytics (no individual data is sold).

4. Data storage and location

All personal data is stored on Google Firebase servers (United States). By using Bus Trackr you consent to your data being transferred to and stored in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your home country (in particular, Quebec's Loi 25 / Canadian PIPEDA / European GDPR). Firebase encrypts data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Access to data is restricted by Firebase Security Rules audited as part of our development process.

5. Data sharing

We do NOT sell your personal data to third parties. Limited sharing happens in these cases only:

  • Other users on your bus: driver display names and GPS positions are visible to students linked to that bus. Student display names are visible to drivers and other students on the same bus (for chat and leaderboards).
  • Parents: linked parents see their child's bus position, school, bus number, and stop location.
  • Service providers: Google Firebase (storage, authentication, push notifications), Google AdMob (advertising), Resend (email for driver-verification flow).
  • Legal: if required by law, court order, or to protect users' safety.

6. Your rights and how to exercise them

You can at any time:

  • Access your data: most of it is visible in the app (Profile, Stats, Shop).
  • Update your display name, notification preferences, school, bus number, or stop in the app's Profile screen.
  • Delete your account and all associated data: Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your user document, trip history, badges, coins, and detaches you from any linked parents or children. The deletion is immediate and irreversible.
  • Disable push notifications: iOS Settings → Bus Trackr → Notifications.
  • Request a copy of all data we hold about you, or report a privacy concern: email lohanbeaudry@icloud.com. We respond within 30 days.

7. Children and parental controls

Bus Trackr is intended for users aged 13 and older. Parents who wish to view their child's bus can create a separate Parent account and link it to their child via a one-time code generated from the child's app. Parents see only the linked child's bus position, school, and bus number — they do not access chat, friend referrals, or shop activity.

8. Security

We use industry-standard practices: HTTPS/TLS for all communication, Firebase Authentication for sign-in, Firestore Security Rules to enforce who can read or write each piece of data, and StoreKit verification for in-app purchases. No system is 100% secure; please report any suspected vulnerability to lohanbeaudry@icloud.com.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
